POSTCARD NINE
From a Land That Quietly Changes You
Some journeys leave footprints. Others leave peace.
From the rugged peaks of Glencoe to the quiet beaches of the Hebrides, from the forests of the Cairngorms to the remote trails of Knoydart, Scotland has a remarkable way of slowing the world down.
Peace of Mind is a postcard to an entire country—a place where breathtaking landscapes, endless horizons and simple moments remind us what truly matters.
PEACE OF MIND
Inspired by the peace, beauty and timeless landscapes of Scotland.
ABOUT THE SONG
Scotland is often described as wild, dramatic and untamed. But beyond its mountains, castles and famous landscapes lies something even more memorable—a profound sense of peace.
Peace of Mind was inspired by the countless moments of quiet found throughout Scotland. Watching the sunrise over a Highland glen, listening to waves roll onto an empty beach, sitting beside a remote loch or simply walking through ancient forests, every journey offered an opportunity to leave everyday life behind.
As one of the fourteen musical postcards from Scotland – A Love Letter, this song is not dedicated to a single destination. It is a tribute to the feeling that Scotland leaves with everyone willing to slow down and embrace its extraordinary landscapes.
SONGWRITER'S NOTE
Looking back on more than one hundred journeys through Scotland, it's difficult to choose one favourite place.
Every region has given me something different. Skye taught me humility. The Cairngorms taught me silence. Knoydart taught me perseverance. Speyside taught me tradition. Oban taught me surprise.
Together, they gave me something I wasn't looking for: peace of mind.
That's what this song is really about. Not one place, but everything Scotland has quietly given me over the years.
Lyrics:
oh-oh… peace of mind…
mmh… been running too long…
peace of mind…
just trying to find…
a place where a heart feels at home…
I was running from the silence
Trying to lose what I became
Every road felt cold and empty
Every night the same old pain
Till I found those open faces
In the cold but gentle air
They don’t turn away
They don’t leave you there
All I ever needed was a peace of mind
Peace of mind…
(Peace of mind…)
Peace of mind…
(Peace of mind…)
In a stranger’s heart that feels like mine
In a helping hand when I was low
In a kind of love I didn’t know
They don’t let you stand there on your own
They make you feel like you belong
All I ever needed all this time
Was a little bit of peace of mind
In a house of light and laughter
With the rain against the stone
They were more than just kind strangers
They made a lost man feel at home
[Rough Harmony (low)]
Every word was warm and honest
They just pull you in
They don’t ask you why
All I ever needed was a peace of mind
Peace of mind…
(Peace of mind…)
Peace of mind…
(Peace of mind…)
In a stranger’s heart that feels like mine
In a helping hand when I was low
In a kind of love I didn’t know
They don’t let you stand there on your own
They make you feel like you belong
All I ever needed all this time
Was a little bit of peace of mind
I was carrying the weight alone
Never thought I’d find a home
But they showed me in a single night
You don’t have to fight alone
To be alright
All I ever needed was a peace of mind
In every heart so warm and kind
In every door that opened wide
In the love they never try to hide
They don’t let you stand there on your own
They make a broken soul feel whole
All I ever needed all this time
Was a little bit of peace of mind
peace of mind…
yeah… peace of mind…
I found my peace of mind…
