POSTCARD THREE
From Pitlochry, Gateway to the Highlands
Every journey has a place where it truly begins.
For many travellers, that place is Pitlochry. Nestled between forests, rivers and mountains, this Highland town is often the first taste of the Scotland that lives in our imagination. It is where the pace slows, the air feels different and the journey into the Highlands truly begins.
Where Time Stands Still is a postcard from this remarkable place—a celebration of quiet mornings, beautiful landscapes and the timeless charm that makes Pitlochry unforgettable.
WHERE TIME STANDS STILL
Inspired by Pitlochry, the gateway to the Scottish Highlands.
ABOUT THE SONG
Surrounded by ancient woodlands, the River Tummel and the rolling hills of Perthshire, Pitlochry has welcomed travellers into the Highlands for generations.
Where Time Stands Still was inspired by the peaceful atmosphere of this remarkable town. Whether strolling through its Victorian streets, watching the River Tummel flow beneath the trees or setting out on one of the many Highland trails, Pitlochry invites visitors to slow down and simply enjoy the moment.
As one of the musical postcards from Scotland – A Love Letter: Fourteen Postcards from the Highlands, the song captures the feeling of arriving somewhere that instantly feels familiar. It is a reminder that some places are not remembered because of what we do there, but because of how they make us feel.
SONGWRITER'S NOTE
Every time I arrive in Pitlochry, it feels as though I've stepped into a different rhythm of life.
It's one of those places where I naturally put the camera down for a while, take a deep breath and simply enjoy being there. Whether walking beside the river, exploring the surrounding forests or preparing for the next adventure into the Highlands, Pitlochry always reminds me why I keep coming back to Scotland.
Where Time Stands Still is my musical postcard to a town that perfectly captures the warmth, beauty and timeless spirit of the Highlands.
Lyrics:
Hey you!
Yeah, I mean you.
It’s time…
For what? I hear you ask.
For a journey to the past.
Destination? Northern Scotland,
By the quiet Cairngorm hills.
But be warned—
It will enchant you,
It will make you long for more,
And I promise you,
You won’t wanna leave.
Turn away from the city lights,
Take that winding road into the Highlands,
And your heart will whisper, this is home.
Where time stands still,
The past is whispering your name
It pulls you in, it takes its hold,
You feel your restless soul awake
And maybe you can hear them—
The bagpipes in the misty night
The magic wraps around you
Like a fire burning bright
Where time stands still.
Old stone houses lined in rows,
Windows glowing warm below.
Every doorway whispers stories
Of days long gone but never old.
You walk those streets and suddenly
You’re standing deep in history,
As if time leapt back a century
And asked you there to stay.
Where time stands still,
The past is whispering your name
It pulls you in, it takes its hold,
You feel your restless soul awake
And maybe you can hear them—
The bagpipes in the misty night
The magic wraps around you
Like a fire burning bright
Where time stands still.
In those extraordinary pubs at night,
With smoky beams and candlelight,
Laughter echoes off the wood,
And strangers feel like brotherhood.
One more dram, one more song,
You swear you’ve been here all along.
You say you’ll leave at break of dawn—
But you already know you’ll stay.
Where time stands still,
The past is whispering your name
It pulls you in, it takes its hold,
You feel your restless soul awake
And maybe you can hear them—
The bagpipes in the misty night
The magic wraps around you
Like a fire burning bright
Where time stands still.
We found our hearts right here,
In Pitlochry…
And you won’t ever wanna leave.
Every song tells a story. Continue your journey through Scotland with the next postcard from the Highlands.
